More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined – 60 each month in North Carolina and 700 per year!

University Autism Outreach Program

The University Autism Outreach Program integrates undergraduate and graduate students into the autism community through a network/database for students seeking internships/clinical hours. The program matches families dealing with autism with qualified students who are interested in helping with life skills, academics, applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy, and other specific needs. The database assists these academic institutions with facilitating hands-on, real life opportunities for students while providing cost-effective services to affected families. Furthermore, long lasting relationships and special bonds often result, enhancing the lives of all involved in such a positive way.

Additional Data

  • Pilot will be launched in January, 2010 (spring semester)
  • At the beginning of each semester, students and families register by completing an application on database (houses on AFC website) with various points to match candidates to families.
  • Match will be based on defined criteria and will be approved by AFC and Universities.
